How do I choose an ePortfolio Tool?

At SF State we are supporting departments using a range of ePortfolio solutions. We try to choose solutions that students can learn to use in a very short time—two hours or less—so that the bulk of their work in ePortfolios relates to demonstrating skills and knowledge, not learning a tool. The following list shows tools currently in use at SF State and some of the departments that are using them:

  • SF State web templates
    • Information Systems (individual classes)
    • Technical and Professional Writing
    • Apparel and Interior Design
    • Child Development
    • General/Teaching Preparation
    • Nutrition and Foodservice
    • Instructional Technologies
  • eFolio
    • Health Education, MPH
    • Recreation and Leisure Studies
    • MA TESOL
    • Liberal Studies
  • KEEP Toolkit
    • English Education
  • Taskstream
    • Elementary Education
  • Internet Candidate Assessment Portfolio (ICAP)
    • Secondary Education
  • Google Page Creator
    • Apparel/Interior Design

Other departments require students to archive their work on CDs, DVDs, and websites. Please follow the guidelines as outlined by your department. You may also want to refer to the information on this site about the "portfolio process".

Your first step is to contact Academic Technology at eport@sfsu.edu to discuss the best option for your project. Please consult with us about the best strategy for getting you started with using ePortfolios in your course or department. We'd also like to see what you have created, no matter which path you follow to create your ePortfolio! Please send us the link to your ePortfolio or a list of your students' ePortfolios, so that we may feature your work in our ePortfolio gallery.
