Publishing your ePortfolio at SFSU
Your personal webspace is automatically set up
when you register at SFSU.
There are many ways to upload your ePortfolio to SFSU. Below are step by step instructions for three different software tools: Fetch, Filezilla, and Dreamweaver.

Using Fetch with a Macintosh computer
After you have created your ePortfolio, you can use Fetch with your Macintosh to upload your files to your webspace at SFSU by following these steps:
- Launch the Fetch application from your applications folder or desktop;
- Fetch should display a “New Connection” window on start, if not you can go to the File Menu to select “New Connection”;
- Enter Hostname: userwww.sfsu.edu;
- Enter Username: type your email user name (everything before the @sfsu.edu);
- Select the “SFTP” option under the “Connect using” pop-up. This will allow you to connect with a secure connect to your SFSU account;
- Enter Password: type your email user password for SFSU;
- Enter Initial folder: type “public_html/”, this will ensure that your portfolio is placed in your SFSU web folder;
- Click the Connect button and you should be connected to your account;
Your connection window should look like this:
- After connecting to your SFSU user account, a window will open that lists the files that are currently in your web folder (public_html);
- To upload a folder of files, click the “Put” icon in the toolbar;
- Navigate to your "eportfolio" folder and click the “Put” button to upload your files.

Using Filezilla with a Windows Computer
After you have created your ePortfolio, you can use Filezilla with your Windows Computer to upload your files to your webspace at SFSU by following these steps:
- Launch the Filezilla application from your applications folder or desktop;
- By default Filezilla’s application window is very confusing. Use the "View" menu to control
Filezilla's windows and toolbars. Be sure that the "Quick Connect Bar" option is checked in the "View" menu;
- Use the "Quick Connect Bar", a toolbar that starts with the "Address" field;
- Enter Address: userwww.sfsu.edu;
- Enter User: type your email user name (everything before the @sfsu.edu);
- Enter Password: type your email user password for SFSU;
- Click the Quickconnect button and you should be connected to your account.
Click the toolbar buttons to control how Filezilla looks:
- Use the left list view to navigate your local computer files to find your "eportfolio" folder;
- Use the right list view to navigate your SFSU web space. Be sure that you navigate to your "public_html"
folder. This folder holds all your web pages;
- Drag your "eportfolio" folder from your local computer files listing to the "public_html" folder located in the list view of your SFSU web space.

Using Macromedia Dreamweaver
Follow this simple web-based tutorial for getting started with dreamweaver.
- If you have a Start Page appear when starting Dreamweaver, click “Create New Dreamweaver Site”
- If not Click “Site” on the menu bar and select “New Site”
Name your site and enter in the URL: http://userwww.sfsu.edu/~username (where username is your SFSU login name). Click Next
- Select “No, I do not want to use a server technology” is selected and click “Next”.
- Select “Edit local copies on my machine, then upload to server when ready”. Store the files in the directory where you extracted the original template and click “Next”.
- Fill in the next window with the following information:
Connect with : FTP
Hostname : userwww.sfsu.edu
FTP login : SFSU username
FTP password : SFSU password
Click “Test Connection” to ensure it works.
Click “Next”
- Select “No, do not enable check in and check out” and click “Next”.
- Review your information and click “Done”
- On the right side within the Files Window (if it is not shown Select “Window” in the menu bar and click “Files”) select “Local View” from the right pull-down menu. Double click on the file you would like to work with and save when finished.
To upload you go to the Files Window, click connect. Select the file(s) you would like to upload and select the “Put” or “Upload” button.
- A window will pop up asking if you want to “Put Dependent Files”, select “Yes”
